I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.
Winston Churchill

Pigs are one of the most consumed animals on the planet. A fact that also makes them one of the most abused animals on the planet.

In every country, including Australia, a pig’s life can be defined as being trapped in a cycle of suffering. The vast majority of pigs are hidden away in factory farms where they are denied basic pleasures like sunlight and freedom to stretch and move around.

Mother pigs are kept in a constant cycle of pregnancy and are never given the chance to interact with their piglets freely, or fulfil their natural ‘mothering’ instincts.

See the world through her eyes

Factory farming only exists because too many animals are being eaten. But consumers were never made aware of the price animals have been paying for ‘cheap meat’. In the gallery below you’ll get a rare glimpse into the daily reality for pigs in our food system. Then keep reading because while you didn’t choose this for them … you can help change it.

See the world as it could be

We may have inherited a food system that treats living beings as nothing more than units of production – but we don’t have to keep it. We can be the generation that thinks differently and that chooses differently.

It’s well-known that pigs have the curiosity and cognisance of a three year old child. But it’s not their intelligence that should matter … it’s their sentience. They live, breathe, feel and befriend … and they deserve a new era on this Earth, where they are recognised and valued for who they are, not for what their bodies produce.

Change their world …

It was our ancestors who decided that some animals would be ‘friends’ and others ‘food’. That some would be valued for who they are and others only for what their bodies can produce. Then laws were put in place that entrenched this way of thinking; farms turned into factories; and the world lost sight of the living, feeling beings inside them.

If we change our thinking, we can change their world.
